Manufacturing Test Engineer

The Manufacturing Test Engineer for our manufacturing team will be responsible for designing releases and documentation associated with the creation of a test system. We need you to understand LabView, C++ and TestStand. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal along with excellent organization with strong analytical and reasoning abilities will be a huge advantage in this position. We want you to support existing manufacturing testers and work with Engineering on developing next generation of test stations for new products including development of test point requirements and ensuring 100% test coverage at our contract manufacturers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for developing test programs, directing tests, analyzing and documenting test results. Communicates results and recommendations to design engineering and management.
  • Work with Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, and Production to coordinate prototype builds.
  • Work with Quality engineers to plan production validation program. Evaluate results and recommend corrective action when required.
  • Identify and apply Lean methodologies to ensure processes are scientifically controlled and continuously improved.
  • Design, develop, qualify and maintain ATE for high-to-low volume electronics manufacturing.
  • Develops test software in high level languages such as TestStand/LabVIEW, C++, and Visual Basic.
  • Design hardware/firmware to interface unit-under-test (UUT) to the ATE.
  • Document designs using CAD software.
  • Develop and document Software Requirements documents (SRDs), Test Plans, Acceptance Test Procedures (ATPs), Qualification Plans, and equipment Calibration Requirements.
  • Conduct formal design reviews.
  • Perform statistical analysis on test equipment designs including 6-sigma and Cpk analysis.
  • Keep abreast of the latest technologies and apply these to our manufacturing Test development processes.
  • Demonstrate technical leadership and be recognized as an expert in either hardware or software test development.

Job Dimensions

Must communicate and interface with test engineers, Contract Manufacturers, test technicians, designers, design engineers, and quality engineers on a regular basis.

Must be able to work in a team environment.

Travel to test sites, customer sites, and manufacturing facilities will be required.

Education and/or Experience

As a Manufacturing Test Engineer, we require a minimum of Five years’ experience with a background in Electrical or Computer Science Engineering. A deep understanding of electronics assembly, SMT process, and manufacturability will make you better in this role. Defining and developing test processes for New Product Introductions, and implementing and supporting optimum test strategies throughout each product's life cycle.

Work with Product Development to implement product changes to enhance the Design For Testability (DFT) and Design for Manufacturability (DFM), provide diagnostic input during development, and provide product debug training and troubleshooting support to internal and external technical resources, such as the contract manufacturers.

Work closely with Design and Manufacturing Engineering to define and implement new product test plans, procedures and processes in an effort to achieve optimal test coverage in the most efficient manner.

Define and implement DFT, DFM, and diagnostic input to Engineering, as well as specifying and assembling required test and debug equipment and fixtures.

Support ongoing production test needs including creating/modifying test software, writing diagnostic routines, and designing and building custom test hardware.

Perform PFMEA (Process Failure Mode Effects and Analysis) by working closely with Engineering to identify the manufacturing process issues, quick solution and prevention.

Perform debug and troubleshooting of products to understand root cause and add preventive measures to eliminate failures due to the manufacturing process.

Develop manufacturing diagnostics to make the debug process more efficient. Prepare accurate and up-to-date reports for review by management. Generate plans for preventative maintenance on new and existing test equipment

Design, develop, qualify and maintain Automated Test Equipment (ATE) used for assuring product conformance in electronics manufacturing. The Test Engineer will interface directly with engineering and Quality to develop acceptance test procedures for mid to high volume manufacturing. Job assignment will require test development for complex technology systems and will require strong understanding of test equipment including spectrum analyzers, power meters, frequency generators, and RF switches and attenuators. Extensive programming will be required in National Instruments and LabVIEW. Candidate must demonstrate a high degree of self-motivation to accomplish technically challenging assignments.

Required Skills

  • Programming skills in National Instrument TestStand.
  • Strong programming skills in LabVIEW.
  • Bachelor's degree from four-year College or university.
  • Experience with other high level language such as C++ and Visual Basic.
  • Experience with SQL databases a plus.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to articulate ideas.

Desired Skills

  • Knowledge of 6-sigma, GR&R studies, DFT and DFM and knowledge of PXI instrumentation and GPIB.
  • Background with ATE instrumentation such as spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, power meters, oscilloscopes, power supplies.
  • Background in RF is a plus.
