News ReleasesThe AutoFarm® Hands-Free Harvest Tour 2007 Is UnderwayMENLO PARK, Calif., June 28, 2007 - During this summer's wheat harvest, producers from Texas to the Dakotas can get a first-hand look at AutoFarm hands-free GPS steering in use on custom harvesters' combines. The Hands-Free Harvest Tour is already underway in the Plains where custom harvesters follow the crop northward as wheat becomes available to be cut. The Tour includes combines set up with AutoFarm's new RighTracâ„¢ advanced GPS steering system offering 3-inch accuracy and repeatability. Repeatability means you accurately and consistently follow the same path season after season, year after year...whether tilling, planting, spraying or harvesting. "The Hands-Free Harvest Tour basically gives producers a chance to evaluate AutoFarm GPS steering systems on custom harvesters' combines, where they really get put to the test. As anyone knows who has ever driven a combine, you've got to keep that header full if you want to be as fuel efficient and productive as possible. When you have a chance to see RightTrac in operation, it instantly gives you a lot of other ideas on what GPS hands-free steering can do for you on the tractor or sprayer earlier in the season," says Tom Morgan, AutoFarm vice president-marketing. The custom harvest crews working the Hands-Free Harvest Tour 2007 in the High Plains include: Collins Custom HarvestingDick Collins Custom Harvesting operates out of Mitchell, South Dakota. Collins runs five combines; four New Hollands and one Case. Two of his New Holland CR 960's are equipped with AutoFarm ATC visual guidance systems and new OnTrac hands-free steering that integrates with the steering wheel to ensure precise vehicle control in all conditions. The Collin's crew started in Haynesville, Texas, then moved to Spearman, Texas. They are currently working in the Goodland, Kansas area. After Goodland, their next stop will be near Byers, Colorado, and then, they will be heading to South Dakota to wrap up the harvest season. Wieczorek HarvestingJohn Wieczorek headquarters in Mt. Vernon, South Dakota and his crew runs seven John Deere 9660 STS combines. Two of the STS's are equipped with AutoFarm RighTrac hands-free advanced GPS steering systems that offer 3-inch, repeatable accuracy. Wieczorek's crew started in Texas, moved to Frederick, Oklahoma, then, most recently was working outside Tribune, Kansas. From Tribune, they will go to Brewster, Kansas, then Holyoke, Colorado. When finished up in Holyoke, they plan to head to South Dakota. "Once you see GPS steering on a combine, you immediately see the benefits it can bring on your tractor, sprayer or other self-propelled equipment," says Wade Stewart, AutoFarm technical service manager. "When you can sit there, no hands on the wheel, and watch that combine take a full header bite out of the crop, you'll see what it can mean in increased productivity and efficiency, plus reduced operator fatigue. And, it can do it 24/7, day or night, dust and heat." "You really have to see it first-hand to see what hands-free can do for you. Less operator fatigue is huge, especially for a custom harvester, but running hands-free also means the driver has time to make sure other things are running correctly because he doesn't have to constantly focus on driving," Stewart adds.
